On our way from Huntsville to Dallas, a four hour layover, and then a 6 hr flight to Anchorage. At the same time, John/Denise flying Milwaukee to Minneapolis, a four hour layover, and then a 5 hr flight to Anchorage. We got there about an hour apart and found the Turo rental car.
Day 1: Breakfast at Snow City. Known for their Eggs Benedict.
A short hike up to Thunderbird Waterfall on the way to Palmer, AK.
A steep hike part way up the Bodenburg Butte. Even part way up it was a beautiful view!
Drove up to Independence Gold Mine. Deserted but later taken over as a state park.
Day 2: Train ride from Anchorage to Whittier (2 hrs).
At Whittier, hopped on a 6 hour “26 Glacier” boat tour. Big boat with 200 passengers. Served salmon chowder and chocolate chip cookies all made on-board. Got right up next to several glaciers and one “calved”. Sounded like a shotgun blast.
